NEW DELHI: A 22-year-old man has been arrested by the North-West Delhi police for allegedly kidnapping a minor girl from Mongolpuri in North-West Delhi in February. According to the police, the 14-year-old girl was kidnapped by her neighbour on February 11. The parents of the girl had accused Bir Singh and his mother of kidnapping the girl. A case was subsequently registered and investigation taken up. However, the police were not able to trace the accused. Later, the case was transferred to the District Intelligence Unit of the North-West Delhi police. On Friday, Assistant Sub-Inspector Ved Prakash got a tip-off about Bir Singh's movement in Jahangirpuri. A team rushed to the area where he was hiding and arrested him. The girl was also rescued at his instance. During interrogation, Bir Singh told the police that he had developed a soft corner for the girl and wanted to marry her. The police said the accused and his mother took her to their native village at Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh ostensibly to solemnise her marriage with Bir Singh. However, Bir Singh allegedly criminally assaulted her for three days. Later, he began changing his place of residence along with the girl to avoid being arrested. Efforts are now on to arrest his mother.

Surender, who worked in a private firm, later received a ransom call in which Rs. 1.5 lakhs were demanded. Surender then informed the police and a case of kidnapping was registered at the Nangloi police station. On Saturday, Sub-Inspector Suraj Bhan and constable Ramesh of the Narela police station were on patrol duty when they heard a child crying in a ground floor flat at Sector-10-A in Narela in the afternoon. A couple of men present there were posing as electricians. The policemen became suspicious and questioned them about the child. Following inquiries they realised that the child had been kidnapped. Two men, identified as Nand Kishore and Radhesh, were arrested from the spot and the child rescued. The Narela police have informed the Nangloi police about the arrests and further investigations are on to trace other accused.
