NEW DELHI: Expressing its apprehension over the opening of the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road, Panun Kashmir, an organisation representing Kashmiri Pandits, on Saturday accused the Union Government of following "policy imperatives based on untested premises''. Describing as "myth'' the belief that contacts between the civil societies of Pakistan and India would create goodwill and enough pressure on the respective governments to pursue peace, the group said only a small number of families would really benefit from the opening of the road across the LOC. "The opening of Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road can only be a prelude to India's accepting and facilitating the creation of a porous border on its Northern frontiers. The nation is already paying a heavy price for the porous border with Bangladesh,'' Panun Kashmir said.
Confidence
Disapproving the form and content of the peace process initiated by the two countries, Panun Kashmir Chairman, Dr. Ajay Chrangu, said at a press conference here: "We are convinced that the so-called confidence building measures will be used by Pakistan to promote its partisan interests in Jammu and Kashmir.''
