dated April 25, 1955: Currency in Pondicherry

A Pondicherry Government notification states: "Currency notes issued by the Bank of Indo-China will cease to be legal tender with effect from May 1, 1955. Holders of these notes should get them exchanged for Indian currency at the Imperial Bank of India, Pondicherry, before May 7, 1955. Notes presented after the date will not be exchanged." Before the de facto merger, the Indo-China Bank was issuing its own notes for local circulation.
