Letters to the Editor
The media coverage of the Lalu Prasad episode was amusing. A railway accident takes place, and 18 persons are killed. An incident of stone-throwing on a Minister gets the same weightage as the accident. Is a stray incident of violence as significant as an accident that claimed human lives? No doubt an attack on a Minister is newsworthy but the kind of publicity it received that too in a country where heckling and slogan-shouting are common made me feel the media have lost their sense of proportion.
S.R. Venkatasubrahmaniam,
It is unfortunate that the accident has taken a political turn. A small incident such as stone-throwing should not be used to settle political scores. The media also should not have given so much importance to it. That even a grim tragedy has become a tool for politicians with the media playing into their hands is indeed deplorable.
C.S. Sundaresha,
