RSS chief's remarks

The RSS chief, K.S. Sudarshan's call to Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L.K. Advani to step down was neither anachronistic nor irrational. Young leaders are more likely to echo contemporary concerns of the youth such as unemployment.

Aravind Sridhar,
New Delhi

What Mr. Sudarshan said about the need for the old order to make way for the new is right. Politics is the only occupation in which there is no age limit or need to remain physically fit. The electorate does not demand a fitness certificate from its representatives.

But the leaders themselves should retire gracefully when they feel they are becoming a liability to their party and the nation.

K.V. Rao,
Hyderabad
