Letters to the Editor
The article "Vote for continuity, not for change" (April 21) was unfair to the Roman Catholic Church. Why does it call the Vatican's doctrinal stance on bioethical questions intransigent? It is like a child calling his mother intransigent because she would not allow him to play in dirty water.
Alwin Anbu,
The challenges to the new Pope extend far beyond the Catholic Church. He has to deal with bioethical issues, the question of power-sharing among the Vatican bureaucracy, individual bishops and national organisations, globalisation and its impact on the poor and middle classes, role of women, and finally relations with Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, and other Christian churches.
