CHENNAI: Sleuths of Narcotics Intelligence Bureau, Criminal Investigation Department, (NIB CID) seized 35 kg of dry ganja in a check conducted in the last two days. Seven persons including two women were arrested in this connection. According to NIB CID police, nine teams conducted checks on Friday in various parts of the city Adambakkam, Chromepet, Ice House, Koyambedu, Pallavaram, Parrys Corner, Pulianthope, T.P. Chatram and Vyasarpadi areas resulting in the arrest of five persons. Police identified them as Subramani (42) of T.P. Chatram, Srinivasan (26) of Adambakkam, Ravi (40) of Kodungaiyur, Parthiban (20) of Ice House and Shanmugam (29) of Vyasarpadi. About 8 kg of dry ganja was seized from them. On Saturday, three police teams conducted checks in Central and Egmore railway stations and also at the Koyambedu bus terminus. The raid was conducted following information that ganja was being smuggled into the city from Andhra Pradesh by road and train, NIB CID officials said. At Koyambedu, police arrested one Usha (35) of Namakkam and claimed that 25 kg of ganja was seized from her.
