Rs. 13 crores to be spent on water works Roads identified for widening Old vegetable market to get facelift Steps afoot to promote greenery

CUDDAPAH: Three major protected water schemes will be completed by June at a cost of Rs. 13 crores to mitigate water scarcity in the limits of the Cuddapah Municipal Corporation, according to the Commissioner, S. Aleem Basha.

A 500 KVA generator was procured from Tirupati to pump water from Gandi and Lingampalli water works, as six to seven-hour power cut hampered water drawal, Mr. Basha said at an interactive meeting organised by City Citizens' Association here on Sunday. Water would be transported to erstwhile panchayat areas around Cuddapah for a month until the schemes went on stream, he said.

Twenty road circles in Cuddapah were identified for widening and 11 being developed in the first phase. Town and Country Planning Director approved widening proposals and tenders being finalised. Encroachments would be removed and private properties required for road-widening taken over after due negotiations with the owners concerned, he stated. He sought public support to avoid procedural delays.

Those giving requisite space for road-widening would be permitted to construct third floors, the Commissioner said. Old vegetable market would be modernised in consultation with vegetable sellers. Shopping complexes have to allot cellar or ground portions for parking vehicles. Parking zones would be set up and five sulabh complexes would be built by private parties which would build and maintain them for 15 years, he said.

Nehru and Gandhi statues would be installed in parks named after them and parks developed at Dwarakanagar and NGO Colony. Greenery would be promoted in road dividers under the guidance of an MCH official, Chandramohan Reddy, he said. The Buggavanka stream would be beautified on advice of a Mumbai-based architect, Hafeez Contractor, who inspected it.

Sanitation improvement would be undertaken by a firm, Exnora, from June. Vacant Government properties would be protected with fencing during May, he said. Survey for an underground drainage system would be done on Monday, he added.

The association president, S. Seetharamaiah, also spoke.
