MUMBAI: The Bollywood star, Amitabh Bachchan, and the playback singer, Manna Dey, were on Sunday conferred the Deenanath Mangeshkar award for their contribution to films and music. The awards instituted in memory of Deenanath Mangeshkar, Lata Mangeshkar's father, were presented by the playback singer on his 63rd death anniversary here on Sunday. The award consists of Rs. 50,000 in cash and a memento. The Deenanath Mangeshkar Pratishthan, which has instituted the award, said that it had plans to honour backstage artistes also. The Santoor maestro, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, the social activist, Abhay Bang, the litterateur, D. M. Mirasdar, and the theatre company, Chandralekha, were also given the award. PTI
