NAGERCOIL: : A team from the Medical Council of India will inspect the Asaripallam Government Medical College Hospital on Tuesday to verify whether the institution has got the necessary infrastructure to provide quality education to 100 students joining MBBS this academic year (second batch), said the Health Minister, N. Thalavai Sundaram. Speaking to presspersons here on Saturday after conducting preliminary meeting in connection with the proposed two-day visit of the MCI team, he said the Government has allotted Rs.75 crores for establishing the medical college in the first phase, and Rs.30 crores in the second phase to improve the infrastructure. Tenders for execution of minor works for the benefit of second year students had already been called for by the Public Works Department and with regard to major works, the Government is yet to finalise tenders. With the completion of the Radiology unit, the scan centre functioning at the Kottar Government Hospital will be shifted to the medical college hospital. The Government had been spending more than Rs.175 crores a year to ensure quality medical treatment to the people belonging to all walks of life.
New guest house
Regarding the construction of a new guesthouse in Kanyakumari, the Minister said the long pending demand has been fulfilled with the allotment of Rs.1.70 crores.
