Krishna delta modernisation next year
|
GUDIVADA:
The State Government will get environmental clearance from the Union Government for the Pulichintala project in two months and work will be completed on a "war-footing," the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has said.
Addressing a gathering during the Rajiv Nagarabata at the Nehru Chowk here on Sunday, the Chief Minister said the modernisation of Krishna delta would be taken up next year as the modernisation of the Nagarjunasagar ayacut had been taken up this year. He also announced the release of water from the Prakasam Barrage to drinking water tanks in the delta area.
Criticising the Telugu Desam, the Chief Minister said that it never bothered about constructing the Pulichintala or the Polavaram project.
The Chief Minister said the Congress Government was able to begin work on the Polavaram Project that had been kept pending for decades. "There was talk about linking the rivers and forming a grid for years, but it is the Congress Government in the State which has taken up the linking of two major rivers -- the Godavari and the Krishna," he said.
He said the Congress Government would protect the Krishna Delta that had a history of 150 years by completing the Pulichintala Project and modernising the delta.
