BC panel report by May 24
Staff Reporter
VISAKHAPATNAM:
The Commission for Backward Classes will submit its report on extending reservations to the Muslims by May 24 -- the deadline set by the High Court.
Asked whether they would seek extension of deadline due to slow progress in conducting the survey on status of Muslims, the Commission's Chairman, Justice D. Subrahmanyam, and its members, V. Krishna Mohan Rao, N. Lakshminarayana Budhiraja and Ambati Subba Rao, told reporters on Sunday that they would complete the report in a month.
Mr. Subrahmanyam said that as per the terms of reference, they had to decide whether to extend the reservations to Muslims. "If it is required, we will also recommend the quota of reservation required for them,'' he said.
When asked whether they would violate the Supreme Court directive in the event of recommending five per quota for Muslims in addition to the existing reservation for various sections, he said "let's us see''.
