Grant for research
The department received a grant of Rs. 27 lakhs from the Department of Science and Technology (DST) for a five-year project for computerisation and laboratory upgradation. Similarly, an associate professor, V. Padmavathi, has been sanctioned Rs. 23 lakhs and Rs. 7 lakhs for two projects, while an associate professor, N. Village servants'
salary increased
The pay rise will come into effect from next month, according to a press release issued by the Andhra Pradesh Village Servants' Association. The Government made a promise on March 5 to increase their salary. D. According to reports, Chakiri Opulaiah (45) was found dead in his fields. An empty pestcide can was found near him. The farmer had run up debts to the tune of Rs. 2 lakhs. To tide over the crisis he had taken three acres on lease last year to try his luck in groundnut cultivation. It only added to his travails. - Staff Reporter
Leopard found
killed
According to information, the carcass of a leopard was found in the village. The wild animal was shot dead. As neither forest officials nor the police went to the village till afternoon, the villagers themselves moved it to the local veterinary hospital and got the post-mortem conducted. - Staff Reporter
