Opposition to shifting of offices from Bellary

Staff Correspondent

BELLARY: The Bellary District Chamber of Commerce and Industry has opposed the shifting of some commercial taxes offices, including that of the Joint Commissioner of Commercial Tax, from Bellary to Davangere.

Addressing presspersons here on Sunday, the chamber president, Phaneendra Babu, said the decision of the Government to shift the offices of the Joint Commissioner, the Deputy Commissioner of Commercial Tax (Assessments-II) and a Commercial Tax Officer was unfair in the wake of trading, exports and manufacturing activities going on in the district.

According to him, the department has recorded a growth of 34.53 per cent in tax mobilisation and continuation of these offices in Bellary was essential in view of the number of industries being set up in the district, which has the biggest readymade garment industry. Shifting the offices will force the people, especially traders, to face hardship as they have to travel to Davangere.
