`Works on Volkswagen unit before May 14'

RAJAHMUNDRY: The Major Industries Minister, Botsa Satyanarayana, said on Sunday that his Government was committed to bring German automobile major, Volkswagen to the State and works on the project would start before May 14. He said that on that day, the Congress Government would complete its first year in power and they would fulfil the assurance to Vizagites -- that the car factory would be established in the city - before that.

Speaking to media, he said the pro-active attitude of the Government is attracting many industries to the State. He said the AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation was ready to give land to big industrial parks free of cost and was also ready to supply power at reasonable rate, which no State in the country was offering.

The Minister also announced that one private sector mega steel plant was showing interest to start its unit in Kakinada with Rs.8000 crores and preliminary talks on this would takes place shortly. He said the detailed project report on Coastal Corridor was being readied and the Chief Minister had reviewed the proposal last week. On the Rajahmundry industrial estate, the Minister said that the DIC and APIIC had identified 400 acres in Velugubanda on the outskirts and a proposal was sent to the Pollution Control Board for preliminary clearance.
