NELLORE: At the general body meeting of Zilla Parishad, held here on Sunday, members cutting across party lines pleaded for improvement of the drinking water supply in the district. The members called for more attention by the Rural Water Supply (RWS) Department and immediate repairs to borewells. The Kavali MLA, M. Parvatamma, the ZPTC members, B. Ravichandra and B. Surendra (both TDP), expressed concern over the present state of affairs. The MLA pleaded for immediate completion of northern canal to meet the demands of Kavali town.
Action sought
The members were not satisfied with the answers provided by the SE (RWS) but wanted concerted action to tackle the situation. About housing, the TDP members alleged discrimination in grounding some works in Kondapur, Allur and other places. Their contention was that though the houses were taken up before general elections, the work was not completed due to political vendetta.
Payment for houses
The Collector, B. Rajsekhar, however, made it clear that payments would be made for all those houses, which were taken up as per guidelines. He also promised to depute the concerned RDO to visit the places where there were supposed to be anomalies. The members expressed concern over the non-payment of funds for `save the crop' scheme for the last two years. The Collector clarified that nothing could be done unless necessary funds were received from the Government, which had been reminded twice. Incidentally, out of 11 MLAs, only four attended the meeting.
