Campaign to educate ryots
Staff Reporter
KURNOOL:
The Agriculture Department in collaboration with allied departments will undertake a campaign to bring awareness among farmers about the fallout of globalisation of agriculture, from April 25 to May 15.
Talking to reporters here on Sunday, the Joint Collector, Ramsankar Naik, and the Joint Director, Agriculture, Hanumantha Rao, said the representatives from horticulture, animal husbandry, marketing and banks would take part in the campaign at the village-level.
The district administration planned to promote soybean on 10,985 hectares and castor on 12,495 hectares during the current season.
The new crops would take areas from cotton and groundnut. Also, they said farmers would be educated on reducing cultivation costs in order to make agriculture remunerative.
Also, the campaign would aim at ensuring crop loans to non-borrowers by identifying such people in each village.
According to an estimate, 64,970 farmers did not receive pattadar passbooks.
The principal scientist of DAATT, G. Narasimha Rao, said the system of rice intensification (SRI), which increased productivity would be promoted.
Farmers would be provided weeders and markers, which were required for SRI cultivation at subsidised prices.
