CRUCIAL ROLE: The Congress General Secretary in charge of Delhi, Ashok Gehlot
JAIPUR: The Congress general secretary, Ashok Gehlot, has expressed the view that the Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, should not have missed the opportunity to explain her position to the party workers at the meeting convened by the Pradesh Congress Committee last week. He has called for better coordination between the Government and the party in Delhi. Mr.Gehlot, the general secretary in charge of Delhi, said even best of the Governments at times were subjected to criticism by the party workers. "It happens with each Chief Minister. There was nothing unusual about the complaints in Delhi too,'' he said. "Generally when the Chief Minister and the Ministers listened to grievances of the partymen and put across their own viewpoint 80 per cent of the people get satisfied. This a democratic process,'' he said talking to newspersons here on Sunday. Mr.Gehlot was present in the Delhi PCC meeting on Tuesday last when Ms.Dikshit walked out of the widely attended programme in a huff following a charade of criticism from the party MLAs against the decisions of the Government headed by her. "For the past six months the PCC has been complaining about the functioning of the Government. The people too had his perception of wrong things being done... it was a golden opportunity for Ms.Dikshit to explain. She unfortunately missed it by going away,'' Mr.Gehlot observed. "Delhi perhaps does not have the tradition of such open discussions,'' he wondered. "I want better coordination between the Government and the organization so that the people get benefited out of it,'' Mr.Gehlot noted.
