CHENNAI: Three chain-snatching cases and one house break-in were reported from various parts of the city on Saturday, in which a total of 31 sovereigns of jewellery and Rs. 4,000 in cash were stolen. In the first incident, Lakshmi (33), a resident of Rajeswari Nagar, Karapakkam, within SRMC police station limits, was returning home from her relative's house when two persons on a motorcycle snatched her chain and escaped. At Korattur, Subashini (55) was robbed of her four sovereign gold chain on Lakshmana Mudali Street in Venkataraman Nagar while on her way home. Korattur police have registered a case. At Puzhal, Renuka (34) lost six sovereigns of jewellery, while she was sleeping. Police said the victim, who was sleeping near an open window, fell easy prey for the thieves who cut and removed the jewellery. The Puzhal police are investigating. In a house break-in at CMDA Colony off Arumbakkam, thieves took away eight sovereigns of jewellery and Rs. 4,000 in cash. Police said Malathi Gnanavel found the front door forced open and the valuables missing when she returned from Tiruvannamalai with her family. Arumbakkam police are investigating.
