VISAKHAPATNAM: The special police party formed to crack the bank burglary case has decided to send all the 11 bank employees, whose involvement is suspected, to Hyderabad for a lie detector test. This is the first case in which police will be sending such a large number of suspects to Hyderabad for a lie detector test. Dates for conducting the test will be finalised in a few days. During preliminary enquiry, the police identified 43 employees of the State Bank of India's Dondaparthy branch, who attended a dinner on Tuesday, a day before cash and jewellery worth over Rs.40 lakhs was burgled from the bank by gaining entry from the terrace.

Some fingerprints collected in the strong room by the CLUES team of police also tallied with some employees. "Right now, we are not ruling out any possibility," the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, A.V. Subba Rao, told The Hindu on Sunday. The police also do not rule out the possibility of the booty having been left in some vehicle or in some suitcase in a cloakroom by the burglars. The sniffer dogs also went up to the railway station giving room for suspicion that the burglars left the city by a train. Sources said that the theft might have been committed after careful planning by an insider(s) with the involvement of some ex-convicts. A tab is also kept on the gold shops and taxi drivers. It is also being ascertained from where the hammer found in the strong room for opening keys was bought by eliciting information from local hardware shops. Meanwhile, the SBI has sent a vigilance team for launching a departmental probe.
