GUDIVADA: The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, showered sops on the people of the town in the Rajiv Nagara baata programme on Sunday. Addressing a public meeting at Nehru Chowk he said "two to three thousand" houses would be constructed with 50 per cent subsidy under VAMBAY, Rajiv Gruha Kulpa or other Government housing schemes. The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for the development of a summer storage tank to be developed at an estimated cost of Rs. 16 crores. The Chief Minister offered to get a loan of Rs. 3.8 crores from HUDCO to reduce the burden on the Gudivada Municipality, which has agreed to contribute Rs. 4 crores as its share. The summer storage tank was designed keeping in view the needs of Gudivada for the next four to five decades. Dr. Reddy laid the foundation stone for a housing colony that would have 640 houses on completion at an estimated cost of Rs. 3.8 crores. He also laid the foundation stone for an Ambedkar Bhavan the construction of which is pending since 1944. Dr. Ambedkar laid the foundation stone for a building at the same site 61 years ago. The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for a municipal office building to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 1 crores in the SPS school grounds adjoining Nehru Chowk. The Chief Minister granted, "roads, drains and street lighting" to the families living in Goodmenpet, Pamulavari Colony and Srikalahasti Colony.
