HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Minority B.Ed. Colleges Association has urged the Government not to insist on G.O. No. 57 for admissions for the ongoing counselling as the present intake was for the academic year 2004-2005. The G.O. No. 57 insists that SSC certificate alone was the base for considering the religious status of a student. In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, the association said admissions into minority colleges for 2004-2005 academic year were based on G.O. No 478 that allowed relaxations in identifying the religious status. He said admissions into various other courses like Engineering, MCA, MBA and Medicine were based on the G.O.No. 478. So similar facility should be extended to B.Ed admissions as they were delayed. The association said the new G.O. 57 was also hampering the admissions of genuine candidates who adopted Christianity after completing their SSC. It said that the Christian minority institutions would lose their minority status if they don't admit 70 per cent students from the community and the latest admission rules would ensure that all institutions would lose their status by next year. The association demanded that the colleges be permitted to admit students in the unfilled seats as per the reservations.
