Storm lashes Capital
According to the Meteorological Department, the unusual development during the month of April was the result of the cumulonimbus phenomenon or "vertical cloud development". "As a result of vertical cloud development there was dust storm followed by heavy rain in the Capital," a Met official said. Besides the cumulonimbus phenomenon, the unexpected rainfall has also been attributed to cyclonic circulation over Western Rajasthan. Following the rain, the mercury dropped from 35.4 degrees Celsius to 31.4 degrees Celsius. While Safdarjung recorded 2.3 mm of rain, Palam recorded 1 mm. According to the weatherman, there are possibilities of thundery developments resulting in light/heavy rainfall in some parts of the Capital within the next 24 hours.
Alleged thieves held
According to the police, the accused, Dharam Pal and Sandeep Kumar, were arrested at Jahangirpuri in North-West Delhi on Friday when they were trying to dispose of the stolen items. During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to having been involved in two thefts. While in the first case they stole a television and a mobile phone, in the other they had laid their hands on cash and jewellery.
Two arrested
The police said the accused, who were carrying a gunny bag, were spotted by two constables near Tikri Mor at G.T. Road in Alipur on Friday last. Those arrested have been identified as Sheesh Pal (22) and Raju (18). In all, the police recovered 192 quarters of "Samalka No. 1", 48 quarters of "Murthal No. 1" and 240 quarters of "Bonnie Scot" from them.
Acid attack case
The police said the victim, Lakshmi, was not able to identify the assailant and added that she would be in a much better position to talk in the next few days. She had sustained serious injuries on her face and chest in the acid attack and there was also a risk of her losing her vision. Meanwhile, the parents of the victim, Munna Lal and Radha, refused to talk to the police on Sunday too as they were still in a state of shock. Since Friday, the police have questioned almost two dozens people but nothing concrete has emerged. The police are prima facie working on the possibility of a love affair having gone sour. Inquiries had revealed that Laskhmi, who worked in a bookshop at Khan Market, had an affair with a boy who was said to be very possessive about her. His parents had also approached Lakshmi's parents with a marriage proposal on Holi day, but the latter had rejected it as they belonged to different castes.
