HYDERABAD: The Communist Party of India (CPI) secretary, Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy, said that irrespective of what different political parties feel, statehood for Telangana could not be achieved in a day. He was responding to questions at a press conference here on Monday on his reaction to actress and BJP leader Vijayashanti saying repeatedly that she was not averse to floating a separate party in pursuit of separate Telangana. Mr Reddy said that while a Cabinet sub-committee was looking into the issue, there was no way anyone could imagine it would happen in a jiffy. "What is required is consensus among political leaders at the national level."
`Not averse to alternative'
On a possible `Third Front,' the CPI leader said it was not an issue of immediate concern or something, which needs a decision in the near future. "Unless the major partner in the UPA, the Congress, refuses to implement the Common Minimum Programme, there is no need for us think of an alternative. Of course, we are not averse to a political alternative if it could lead to better administration," he said. He said people in villages were reeling under the impact of summer and urged the Chief Minister to concentrate on employment generation and making potable water available in the rural areas. As far as the interim report of the High-level Committee on the APSRTC was concerned, the CPI leader objected to some of the recommendations like hiring of 2,000 buses.
