Crash courses in French

The Alliance Francaise of Madras, College Road, is offering French crash courses for children (eight years and above), students (beginners, non-beginners), professionals and just anyone who wants a foundation in the language.

The classes are conducted in air-conditioned rooms, in a friendly atmosphere, with a lot of activities — songs, games, films... Fresh batches take off every Monday in April and May. Contact 28279803/28271477 to register.

Eye camp

At a free eye camp held at Chathurangapatinam in Kancheepuram district on Sunday, of the 357 elderly people who were screened for various ailments, 50 were referred to Sankara Eye Hospital in Pammal and Sankara Nethralaya for cataract surgery. About 85 people were screened for dental ailments and given free medicines.

Blood donation

Thirty-eight volunteers and students of Ambitions4 Photography Club donated blood last week at a camp jointly organised by Ambitions4 Photography Club and Indian Red Cross Society.

Yoga, sports

meditation camp

Abhinivesha is conducting yoga and sports meditation camp for children aged 6-15. The camp, being held from April 20 will include sessions on basic asanas, varma and karate defence techniques. For details contact Viji at 98843 07441.

MLA hurt in accident

Tirunavalur MLA K.G. Gnanamurthy was injured in a car accident in Chennai early on Monday.

Police said the car in which he was travelling with eight other All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam functionaries rammed into a concrete pillar of the Anna Flyover after hitting a tourist car. The MLA was admitted to Government General Hospital with multiple injuries, while other occupants of the car were admitted to Royapettah Government Hospital.

Sources said the MLA had arrived here for by-election related work. The tourist car driver, Ravi, has been arrested.
