CHENNAI: City police have recovered stolen gold jewellery worth Rs.10 lakhs from a pawnshop in Kandanchavadi following the arrest of a three-member gang on Sunday. A police press note issued on Monday said that a special team from Flower Bazaar police station arrested the gang comprising G. Dhanasekaran of Arumbakkam, D. Sivagnanam of Villivakkam and M.P rabhakar of Adambakkam, near Basin Bridge on Sunday when they attempted to snatch a gold chain from a pedestrian. The police team chased the gang members and overpowered them. On questioning them, police found out that the trio had criminal records. The gang reportedly operated in various parts of the city, including Teynampet, Maduravoyal, Anna Nagar, Flower Bazaar and Royapettah, and pawned stolen jewels with the pawnbroker. CRPF constables arrested Police have arrested three constables of the Central Reserve Police Force on charges of harrassing the wife of an Army captain in Avadi on Sunday evening. Police said P. Sebastian (29), S. Vijayan (35) and R. Saravana Kumar (29) had passed lewd remarks in Malayalam about the army officer's wife when she was shopping. The captain had picked an argument with the trio and soon the quarrel broke out into fisticuffs. Based on a complaint filed by the captain, the three CRPF constables were arrested by Avadi police. Charges have been filed under the Indian Penal Code and under the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harrassment of Women Act.
