HYDERABAD: The State Government has embarked on a major recruitment drive in the Police Department offering over 3,000 posts of constables and an equal employment of home guards to meet the challenges on the law and order front. Senior police officers expect to induct 600 to 700 sub-inspectors of police through normal vacancies and new posts will be created in the battalions of the Andhra Pradesh Special Police (APSP). They are hopeful that the Government will clear the proposal in one or two months. M.L. Kumawat, Chairman, State-level Police Recruitment Board (SLPRB), has told The Hindu that he will soon notify for an additional 1,700 posts of constables for two India Reserve (IR) battalions of the APSP.
New posts
A notification already issued recently for recruitment of 867 constables for the IR battalion of APSP at Anantapur and 180 constables for the District Armed Reserve of Cyberabad Police Commissionerate will be amended to include 1,700 new posts of constables for the two extra battalions. While the recruitment for the battalions will be at the State-level, it will be done on the basis of local and non-local categorisation for Cyberabad. It will also invite applications for 428 posts of civil constables for the Cyberabad Commissionerate. Mr. Kumawat has said the recruitment will be completed by June 12 and the recruits put through a nine-month training thereafter. The Cyberabad Commissioner, M. Mahender Reddy, has said the Government is taking up the recruitment for the Commissionerate for the first time since its formation.
Regular vacancies
Meanwhile, according to sources in the Home Department, the issue of recruiting 3,000 home guards will figure at the next meeting of Cabinet. Inter-departmental correspondence is in progress to fill 4,000 regular vacancies of constables. A decision in this regard is expected shortly. This apart, a proposal to take up recruitment for a battalion, exclusively for tribals, is pending with the Government. Mr. Kumawat has said the recruitment of sub-inspectors as and when sanctioned will be taken up for the new APSP battalions and regular vacancies. About 40 sub-inspectors each may be required for each of the three new battalions.
