Police's frantic rush to graveyard prevents mix-up
|
HYDERABAD:
The relatives of a man run over by train were handed over the body of another person by the mortuary authorities moments before they were to cremate it at a graveyard here on Monday. The mix-up was detected in the last moment.
Red-faced police officials dashed to the graveyard to stop the funeral. The goof-up was attributed to wrapping of both the bodies from head to toe with a white cloth in an identical fashion.
The Kachiguda Railway police brought the body of an unidentified man, later recognised as Yadaiah of Saroornagar, aged about 45 years to the morgue for autopsy on Sunday. He reportedly died after being hit by a train at Timmapur of Shadnagar. Another person, Imtiyaz Ansari, 22, of Gudivada, died on Sunday while undergoing treatment for an ailment at the OGH.
Side by side
The two bodies, were kept on the stretchers side by side after autopsy was performed around 3 p.m. today. When Imtiyaz's relatives went out to hire a vehicle, Yadaiah's family took his body away to a graveyard near Puranapool. Meanwhile, Imtiyaz's relatives returned and were about to shift Yadaiah's body to the. One of them removed the shroud only to find a different body.
As they raised a hue and cry, the Afzalgunj police swung into action. Incidentally, Yadaiah's family had not removed the cloth and were unaware of the mix-up.
