CHENNAI: The BCCI joint-secretary, Gautam Dasgupta, told The Hindu that the Board was likely to appoint a committee by this month-end to `scrutinise the credentials' of the various candidates for the job of the Indian cricket team coach. Greg Chappell, Tom Moody, Dav Whatmore and Dean Jones are in the fray. Dasgupta, however, said the choice was not limited to these four names alone. "There is still time for the others to apply. In fact, if there is an Indian with suitable attributes, even he stands a chance," he said. He maintained that the senior Indian cricketers or the outgoing coach John Wright had not been approached for their views so far. "They might have given their opinion at an informal level, but officially they have not given any suggestions." Dasgupta said a new coach could be selected by the first week of May.
