National road racing opener on May 1

COIMBATORE: The two-wheeler racing scenario now seems to have changed for the better with two of the leading players in automotive industry joining hands in presenting the UCAL Rolon National road racing championship scheduled to begin at the Kari Motor Speedway in Chettipalayam, near Coimbatore, on May 1.

The championship will consist of six rounds with three to be held in Coimbatore and the rest at the MMSC track in Irungattukottai, near Chennai. The Coimbatore races will be organised by LG Sports Private Ltd. and the Chennai legs by the Madras Motor Sports Club.

The championship will be held for two and four stroke motorcycles and will have two races per round. For the moped class (up to 65cc) and for the novices it will be one race each of four and five laps respectively.

The schedule: Round 1 & 2: Coimbatore (May 1 & 29), Round 3 & 4: Chennai (June 12 & July 10), Round 5: Coimbatore (September 4) & Round 6: Chennai (October 9).
