Attack on Nepal Communist party office flayed

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: : The CPI(M) general secretary, Prakash Karat, on Tuesday condemned the attack on the headquarters of the Communist Party of Nepal (United Marxist-Leninist) by police and security personnel in Kathmandu.

In a statement here, he said the attack took place immediately after the funeral of Sadhana Adhikari, a prominent communist and wife of the former Prime Minister, Manmohan Adhikari. The body was kept in the party office for the people to pay homage.

A statement by the Communist Party of Nepal showed the type of police state Nepal had become under King Gyanendra and urged the United Progressive Alliance Government to take note of the ground reality in Nepal before taking any step that would strengthen the authoritarian rule of the king.
