MP rebuts Jayalalithaa's charge

CHENNAI: : Joining issue with the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, the former Congress MP, Vallal Peruman, on Tuesday said the Union Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram, toured the tsunami-hit areas and offered relief to victims.

Denying Ms. Jayalalithaa's charge that Mr. Chidambaram had not done anything constructive, he said the Minister promised all help from the Centre to the affected. Mr. Chidambaram visited the coastal areas on December 28 and 29. He talked to Collectors and officials about relief and assessed the damage along the Tamil Nadu coast. After consultation with the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, Mr. Chidambaram announced a relief of Rs. 2,500 crores for Tamil Nadu, Mr. Vallal Peruman said.
