TIRUNELVELI: : A police informer was murdered at Rajavallipuram near here shortly after midnight of Monday. In retaliation, the house and haystack yard of one of the accused were set afire. Police said G. Nallakannu (32), a Congress cadre of Rajavallipuram under the Thaazhaiyuththu police station, was reportedly informing the police about the movements of anti-socials in his area. When the idols of Sivan and Perumal temples at Rajavallipuram were stolen, the police could successfully nab the culprits Shankar and Muthuramalingam of the same area and recover the idols, thanks to the information provided by Mr. Nallakannu. It was found that Shankar and Muthuramalingam murdered Nallakannu at the instigation of Maayaandi, the president of Rajavallipuram panchayat, who had developed enmity with the victim during the polls held for the local body. A hunt is on to nab the trio.
