Kudos to R. Rajakumari of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the councillor of ward No. 27, Tirunelveli, who has really fought with the Mayor A. Jeyarani and the Commissioner, during the council meetings to get a lion's share of Rs.34 lakhs sanctioned for repairing the major roads in her ward. It is indeed very heartening to learn that there are such bold and sincere councillors, fighting for the cause of the common and hapless man. Despite many representations about the deplorable conditions of the Seventhipatti Road and several streets of Theogaraja Nagar and Maharaja Nagar, no action has been taken so far by the authorities concerned. Let us hope the councillors of Theogaraja Nagar and Maharaja Nagar areas too emulate Ms. Rajakumari. Stephen V. Antony, Tirunelveli Disorder in old bus stand Chaos prevails at the Tuticoin old bus stand, being used for buses serving destinations on the southern parts of the district, and town buses. Buses are parked haphazardly and passengers run hither and thither searching for buses serving their routes. Though there is a police booth inside the bus stand, the policemen seldom regulate the traffic. Too many tea stalls, fruit shops and vendors add to the congestion and pandemonium. Will the district administration look into the matter and sort out these problems? M. Murugan, Tuticorin Bus service Bus services between Tuticorin and Tiruchendur leave a lot to be desired. Most of the Tiruchendur-bound buses come from places such as Kovilpatti and Madurai. It is difficult to board these already overcrowded buses. The transport authorities must increase bus services to Tiruchendur that originate from Tuticorin. P. Senthil Saravana Durai, Vazhavallan `Seemaikkaruvai' This is with reference to the letter `Destroy trees' published on April 20. Owners of brick kilns use `seemaikkaruvai' as fuel. It is very cheap compared to other firewood. Price of bricks was very high when `seemaikkaruvai' was in short supply. Due to a good northeast monsoon, there is a good growth of `seemaikkaruvai', the abundance of which has resulted in reduction of price of bricks. Hence, let `seemaikkaruvai' grow for the sake of brick industry. G. Purushothaman, Tirunelveli Revenue stamp In Tirunelveli district, the public are facing untold hardship due to non-availability of revenue stamps of one-rupee denomination. Enquiries reveal that post offices have last received revenue stamps from the government four months back. Exploiting this situation, vendors and shopkeepers fleece the public, selling one-rupee revenue stamp at Rs.4. In Ayikudi, Kuberapattinam and Madathur, they are not available at all. Revenue stamps play a vital role in people's daily economic activities. The scarcity creates a mental agony to the general public, particularly to traders and borrowers. The Union Government must increase the supply of revenue stamps and thereby avoid the `artificial shortage' in post offices. A. Muppidathiraj, Tenkasi
