Mumbai: Once a powerhouse, Tata Sports Club made a first round exit from the 43rd all-India Bombay Gold Cup hockey tournament at the Mahindra Stadium on Tuesday. The Bombay House boys went down 0-1 to Maharashtra State Police (MSP). Amol Bhosale scored the winner in the 49th minute. And Tata SC didn't have a good time converting penalties as it was awarded nine penalty corners, and all went abegging. It was not just a great day for penalty corner specialists as it was proved in the second match of the day between Corps of Signals, Jalandar, and Integral Coach Factory (ICF). The Signals forced 15 and ICF nine and it was once again a sorry story for both teams. A sudden death tiebreaker determined the winner and Signals managed to scrape through 4-3. The Border Security Force (BSF)-Sports Authority of India (SAI) from suburban Kandivali produced some fare to remember, especially the sprawling effort by Navneet Swarnakar for the home team, but it was BSF that entered the second round recording a 3-2 win. The Jalandhar side held the advantage leading 3-2, after ICF's Vinoth Kumar and Satish Kumar failed to beat the Signals goalkeeper Imran Khan. It was 3-3 after the first set of five strokes. Thereafter Rajendra Prasath's feeble push was saved by Imran and Ghan S. Das converted for Signals to make it 4-3.
