New power station

NEW DELHI : The Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, inaugurated the newly constructed 66 KV Yamuna Vihar sub-station here on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Dikshit said East Delhi would now enjoy better power supply following the commissioning of the new grid station.

Built by the BSES at a cost of Rs.25 crores, the grid station would provide electricity to the residents of Yamuna Vihar and adjoining areas.

Expressing his satisfaction at the commissioning of the new sub-station, the CEO of BSES, Rakesh Aggarwal, said: "I am positive that our multi-crore investment will yield rich dividends in the form of reliable and quality power."

The East Delhi Member of Parliament, Sandeep Dikshit, and the Delhi Power Minister, Haroon Yusuf, were also present during the inauguration.

Award conferred

NEW DELHI : The founder Principal of Manav Sthali School, Mamta V. Bhatnagar, was presented the World Tertiary Education Preparedness Award at the India International Centre here this past week for her contribution in the areas of vocational and environmental education.

The award was conferred on Ms. Bhatnagar by the International Institute of Ecology and Environment. Among those present at the award ceremony included the Minister of the Embassy of Federal Republic of Germany, Julius Georg Luy, and the Chairman of the Spiritual Interfaith Centre, Swami Halder Guru.

Kurisil Awards

NEW DELHI: The Kurisil Awards instituted by K.M.S. Entertainment, a Tamil cultural organisation, were conferred on people who have distinguished themselves in different walks of life at a function at the Delhi Tamil Sangam here on Sunday. The former Vice-Chancellor of Punjab Technical University, Y.S. Rajan, was the chief guest on the occasion, while the Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, K. Jayakumar, presided over the function.

The awardees included G. Balachandran and S. Krishnamurthy for their contribution to Tamil art and culture and Saroja Vaidyanathan for Bharatnatyam.

`Earth Day'

NEW DELHI : DPS Indirapuram celebrated `Earth Day' with great enthusiasm on Monday with its students showcasing an educative cultural programme that dealt with environmental problems and how to tackle the critical situation.

Upholding the importance of `Mother Earth', the school choir group presented a melodious performance, "Hum Rahi Matwale... .", spreading the message of forestation and stressing the need to protect the earth, which is home to many beautiful creations.
