NEW DELHI: : Worried over increasing incidence of back pain among Delhiites, the Department of Orthopaedics of Lady Hardinge Medical College and Associated Hospitals here will hold a public forum on May 1 to tell the common man and woman about the most prevalent causes, treatment available and tips for prevention. "It would not be inappropriate to say that a silent epidemic of back pain is affecting younger people in urban settings and its existence is being increasingly recognised by the orthopaedic fraternity. The emergence of such a scenario requires a widespread awareness campaign for the public by treating doctors and this is the reason for the public lecture,'' said the Professor of Orthopaedics, Ramesh Kumar. Explaining how simple steps could prevent major problems, he said: "A majority of our patients are computer workers and they should work while keeping the computer screen at eye level, keyboard on sloped table top, back supported by the back of the chair, swivel chair with arm-rests, a break of a few seconds to a minute after every 30 to 40 minutes.''
