CHENNAI.: In a move to pre-empt future encroachments, Corporation officials of Ward 153 falling under Zone 10 recently removed encroachments on public land in Velachery with the help of police personnel. The public lands earmarked as children's park situated at the junction of Ramnagar Sixth Cross Street and Vijayanagar Fourth Cross Street and Bharathi Street of Annai Indira Nagar were encroached upon by some unauthorised persons who had put up huts having political backing. "More than 80-90 Open Space Reservation (OSR) lands have been identified in Division 153 and 153A of which twenty OSR lands have been compounded, five are under litigation and more than 30 OSR lands are occupied by private buildings. With the huts removed, residents of Velachery want the Corporation to act on constructed buildings in OSR lands.
