3 held, stolen jewels recovered

Trio involved in several break-ins chased down and apprehended by police

CHENNAI: The Flower Bazaar police have recovered stolen jewellery worth Rs. 10 lakhs following the arrest of three persons. The arrested were identified as G. Dhanasekaran (29) of Ayanavaram, D. Sivavinayagam (25) of Villivakkam and M. Prabhakar (23) of Adambakkam.

A release from the police said the trio allegedly brandished knives and removed jewellery and chain from a person on Frazer Bridge Road on Sunday. A special party chased them and secured the three.

Interrogation with them revealed that they were involved in house break-ins in Abhiramapuram, Anna Nagar, Chitlapakkam, Flower Bazaar, Maduravoyal, Royapettah, Seven Wells, Teynampet and Thiru-vi-Ka Nagar. They sold the stolen property to T. Narayanlal of Kandhanchavadi. Police recovered all the jewellery from him, the release added.

Man arrested

The Anna Nagar police arrested a 26-year-old man and recovered stolen cash, household articles and cellular phones worth Rs 1.25 lakhs from him.

According to a press release, a special party conducted surprise checks in front of a few banks and commercial complexes and secured Lawrence (26) of Karimedu, Tiruvottiyur. Interrogation with him revealed that he, along with his associate, Paulraj, allegedly used to distract the victims' attention and steal their credit/debit cards. Using them, they purchased the articles and cellular phone instruments, the release said.

Gambling den raided

The Central Crime Branch police raided a place in Avadi and arrested 74 persons on charges of involving in illegal gambling on Sunday.

A police release said that following specific information, a raid was conducted in the place, which resulted in the arrest. Police seized about two sovereigns of gold jewellery, four cellular phones, Rs. 13,671 in cash, seven wristwatches along with the registration certificate of two-wheelers, which were meant for gambling, the release said. The police registered a case against the owners of the den, Abdulkalam and Pushparaj of Avadi, who were absconding.

Chain snatched

A four-sovereign gold chain was snatched from a woman in Chromepet early on Tuesday.

Police said the victim, Padma (47), was asleep in her house on Anantharaman Street in Radha Nagar when unidentified persons entered the premises and removed the chain from her person.

Patricide

A family dispute between a father and son led to the murder of the former at their house in Thirunindravur off Avadi on Monday night. Police said a wordy duel erupted between K. Seetharaman (53) and his son Raju (22) while they were in their house at Nathambedu near Thirunindravur around 10 p.m. Seetharaman was attacked with a wooden pestle and sustained serious head injuries. He died on the spot.

Jewellery stolen

Gold jewellery weighing 15 sovereigns was stolen on Tuesday from a house in West Mambalam, where an aged woman was alone. According to police, a man arrived at the house on Rajagopalan Street claiming he had come to repair the telephone connection. The intruder went to the room where the bureau was kept, opened it and escaped with the jewellery.
