MADURAI: The Corporation Commissioner, D.J. Dinakkaren, on Tuesday conducted a surprise inspection of garbage clearance at more than 40 places in the city. Accompanied by the Assistant Commissioner (north), K.G. Umapathy, and the Assistant City Health Officer, Shanmugasundaram, he began the inspection at around 6 a.m. from Ramavarma Nagar and covered important thoroughfares in the north, east and south zones, including Anna Nagar 80 feet Road, Kamarajar Salai, Kamarajarpuram, South Veli Street, South Marret Street, South Avani Moola Street, Khanpalayam and Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple. Besides, he verified the attendance registers of sanitary workers. Mr. Dinakkaren instructed the sanitary inspector to clear the garbage and stagnant water near the Ramarayar Mandapam. He directed the staff not to dump garbage into the Vaigai but clear them by using lorries.
