CDs seized, one held
The police here said the pirated CDs were seized from a shop in the Tiruverambur union complex. The name of the arrested accused was given as Anand who was later remanded. The Video Piracy Cell has registered a case.
Assistance distributed
The assistance was given at a public grievance day meeting held at the Collectorate. An official release issued here said the Collector gave away weighing and packing machines, costing Rs. 1,725, to each one of the 16 self-help groups. He also distributed a grinder to the Sokkanathapuram panchayat level federation. Welfare assistance was also given to Alathudaiyanpatti panchayat level federation.
`Ban air horns'
In an appeal to the Collector, the Kazhagam's district president, S. T. Rajendran, said the traffic police personnel should take appropriate action and ensure that town buses halt at the specified bus stops. Notwithstanding sign boards put up by the police, buses continued to stop in front of these boards, he claimed. The buses did not halt at the bus shelter opposite the clock tower in Gandhi Market though the shelter was being used by small traders. He said town buses coming to Chathiram bus stand from Thuvakudi and Boiler should be diverted via Prabhath theatre until the road over bridgework at Palakkarai was over.
Action against quacks sought
In a letter to the Chief Minister Special Cell, the Kulumam, director/chief executive, M. Muthusamy appealed to the Government to take appropriate action against those medical institutes issuing fake certificates. He claimed that there were several quacks operating in the district.

Mr.Singh, who made an on-the-spot inspection of the progress of the work, directed the contractor to complete the work at the earliest. He also directed the officials to close the open drains passing through the site and repair the narrow road passage to enable pedestrians to cross over without difficulty. The City Engineer, V.Sivaraman, the Corporation Executive Engineer, R.Chandran and other officials accompanied the Commisioner.
