Letters to the Editor
The editorial "Arms supply to Nepal will be gross folly" (April 27) ignores India's geo-strategic interests. It is common knowledge that both China and Pakistan, who follow their own versions of democracy, have offered to fill the vacuum caused by India's cessation of help. India therefore has no choice but to reverse its stance towards the Himalayan kingdom. Restoration of democracy abroad cannot be at the cost of India's national interest.
J.M. Manchanda,
* * * Given the long and porous border between India and Nepal and, more important, the links between the Maoists in the two countries, New Delhi cannot afford to ignore the reality on the ground. Helping Nepal fight insurgency is also in India's interest.
