HYDERABAD: Two suspected naxalites were gunned down by the police in an exchange of fire in Hastinapuram South Colony on the city outskirts on Wednesday evening. A police officer who sustained a bullet injury on his knee was admitted to a private hospital. The slain naxalites, believed to be husband and wife, are yet to be identified.

The armed clash followed when two police teams stormed their rented house.

The naxalites are believed to be members of the Communist Party of United States of India (CPUSI), a splinter group. The police recovered Rs. 5 lakhs in cash and a revolver from the scene.
