Liquor seized

MADANAPALLE: Sixty litres of liquor has been seized and three persons arrested during raids by the Excise Department according to the Excise CI of Valmikipuram, Chandran. Thirty litres was seized from one Fathima Bi resident of Namazkatta Street and another 30 litres from Ramesh Naik and Sunkalappa of Diguthanda, during recent raids. - Correspondent

Doctor for Berlin meet

CUDDAPAH: A homeopathy lecturer of Cuddapah Government Homeopathic Medical College, G. Srinivasulu, will attend the 60th Homeopathic World Medical Conference at Berlin in Germany from May 4 to 7. He is among seven Homeopaths chosen from India.

A Best Teacher State awardee and Nyayapathi Gold Medal recipient, Dr. Srinivasulu would present a paper on `brain disorders in children - role of Homeopathy' at the conference, the Principal of the College, P. Raghava Reddy, said in a statement on Wednesday.

Housing colony inaugurated

MADANAPALLE: The chief whip, N. Kirankumar Reddy, inaugurated the housing colony at Pathegada Kotala of Kalikiri mandal on Tuesday. He distributed house site pattas to 53 beneficiaries of Medikurthi and participated in gram sabhas at Sandrapalle, Munellapalle, Pathegada Kotala, Parapatla, Medikurthi and Marrikuntapalle. - Correspondent

Santi yagnam

Cuddapah: Sri Venkateswara adbhutha santi yagnam will be held here from April 29 to May 1 to atone for the sins and lapses committed in traditional rites and daily chores and to offset nature's vagaries. The TTD Dharma Prachara Parishad Secretary, K. Chenchu Ramaiah and the TTD Board member, M. Navaneeswara Reddy, on Wednesday released posters for the yagnam to be held at the TTD kalyanamandapam.

Gales damage crop

Cuddapah: Rain and gales that lashed some villages in Obulavaripalle mandal on Tuesday evening, destroyed horticultural plantations in about 50 acres resulting in losses of Rs. 10 lakhs.

Banana, mango and papaya plantations in the harvest stage were damaged in Pedda Orampadu and Gobburivaripalle, according to official sources.

Transfer ban to go

HYDERABAD: The general ban on transfer of Government employees/ teachers is likely to go from May 1 for a limited period of two months.

As the Government order, by which the ban was imposed on January 25, lapses on April 30. The Finance Department has circulated a file to the Chief Minister seeking his clearance for not re-imposing it for May and June, the months when transfers are normally allowed in view of children's education and other genuine reasons.__Special Correspondent

Plea to stop encounters

HYDERABAD: Gummadi Narsaiah MLA belonging to the CPI (ML) New Democracy, on Wednesday urged the Government to stop encounters in the Rampachodavaram agency area.

In a statement issued here, the MLA charged the police with terrorising Girijans after entering villages. He alleged that seven residents of Anamchelli village were detained by the police and threatened to reveal information about extremist squads. __Staff Reporter

APCC poll

schedule announced

HYDERABAD: The schedule to elect the APCC president, office-bearers and executive committee members was announced by the election authority on Wednesday. The elections will be held on April 29 at 2.30 p.m. at Prakasam Hall, Gandhi Bhavan.

T. Sesh Narayan, APCC secretary, said in a press release that telegrams about the meeting had been sent to the delegates. The DCC presidents had also been intimated with a request that they should ensure attendance of all delegates on April 29.

HYDERABAD: The report on the 2004 Assembly elections brought out by the General Administration Department is available for sale. HYDERABAD : The annual examinations of the certificate and diploma courses offered by the Government Music and Dance colleges and schools in the State, Sri Venkateshwara Dance and Music College, Tirupati, and Sri Siddhendra Yogi Kuchipudi Kala Peetham, Kuchipudi, will be conducted from May 18 to 20. The date of practical examinations will be notified by the principals concerned later. Candidates can obtain their hall tickets and timetable from May 11, according to a statement from the Potti Sriramulu Telugu University. __Staff Reporter

ADILABAD: The Asifabad Fast Track Court Judge, J. Madhava Rao, on Wednesday sentenced Parupali Dinesh to life for killing his father. Dinesh killed his father, Bhumaiah, on July 9, 2004, when the latter questioned him on troublesome ways. .__Staff Reporter

Sangareddy: Siddipet police arrested three persons from different parts of Medak district on Wednesday for printing and circulating fake currency in 100 rupee denominations. __Staff Reporter

Two farmers end lives

KARIMNAGAR : Two farmers committed suicide at separate places in the district on Tuesday due to increasing debts following failure of crops on account of acute drought conditions. Ratna Reddy, 48, and Ch. Nalla Kondaiah, 50, consumed pesticide in Thalla Dharmaram village of Sarangapur mandal and Maitapur village of Raikal mandal respectively.__ Staff Reporter

Two die in road mishaps

Sangareddy: Kola Ramu (19), a native of Krishna district, died near Ramachandrapuram when he accidentally fell off the three-wheeler he was travelling in. He was rushed to a private hospital, where he succumbed to injuries.

In another accident, Pochamma (80) of Dongala Dharmaram died when she was hit by a tanker in Ramayampet.

Computer terminal inaugurated

ADILABAD: Trilochan Shastry, a professor of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Bangalore, on Wednesday inaugurated an online computer terminal for trading in commodities at the headquarter village of Narnoor tribal mandal.

Sahakara Mitra Samstha (SMS), an NGO working in rural areas of Adilabad district, facilitated the Internet services for farmers.

40 houses gutted

ADILABAD: As many as 40 houses at SC Colony at Peddampet village in Mancherial mandal were destroyed in fire on Wednesday.

Though there were no casualties, 40 families lost their belongings and food grain. The Luxettipet MLA, N. Diwakar Rao, visited the village.

PCC chief's visit

WARANGAL: The APCC president, K. Keshava Rao, will visit the district on May 3 as part of his Shanti Yatra.

According to DCC president, G.V. Ramana Reddy, Mr. Keshava Rao would pass through Isipeta in Mogullapalli mandal and would cover Rangapur, Laxmipur, Nagaram, Paidipalli and Parkal.

The yatra would culminate into a public meeting at Parkal at 2 pm.

Ministers -- Ponnala Lakshmaiah and D.S. Redya Naik -- and senior party leaders were expected to take part in the programme.
