NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday disposed of a public interest litigation (PIL) by a non-government organisation seeking directions to the Directorate of Education of the Delhi Government to take action against those trained graduate teachers (TGTs) of public schools here whose Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) degrees were found to be forged ones in an internal inquiry. A Division Bench comprising Justice B.C. Patel and Justice S.K. Kaul disposed of the petition when counsel for the Directorate, Sanjiv Khanna, submitted that the Directorate had conducted verification of teachers of public schools having forged B.Ed. degrees and issued directions to the school managements for action. He submitted that the Directorate had so far conducted verification of 906 teachers teaching in un-aided schools across the Capital and 125 were in process of being verified. As regards the teachers possessing forged degrees as mentioned in the petition, the school managements had been issued show cause notices for action against such teachers. Reiterating the submission by Mr. Khanna in the order, the Bench disposed of the petition. The petitioner, Chipiwara Zone Welfare Society, had alleged on the basis of specific instances that several trained graduate teachers holding fake B.Ed. degrees, and in some cases without it, had been teaching in public schools for years.
