BANGALORE: Office-bearers of a few Dalit and backward organisations have demanded the abolition of the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) on the ground that it has "not served the purpose of providing employment to the Dalits and backward classes." Speaking to presspersons, Lakshminarayana Nagavara, convenor, Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (DSS); Harihara Anandaswamy, DSS organising convenor; and K.S. Shivaramu, president, Karnatata State Backward Classes Awareness Forum, urged the Government to take up direct recruitment to the Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) or entrust the task to the Union Public Service Commission. The KPSC has conducted the KAS preliminary examination even though the selection process of those who wrote the examination in 1998 and 1999 has not been completed, they said. Although the results of the 1999 examination were published last year, interviews have not been held, they said. The then Secretary of the KPSC allegedly misled the Supreme Court by filing a "false" affidavit about the 1999 examination results. They alleged that there is corruption in the commission. The office-bearers said a dharna in support of the demands of organisations of dalits and backward classes will be held in front of the KPSC office on May 11.
