Youth killed in Attingal

Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: : A 32-year-old youth was found strangled to death under a bridge at Kizhattinkara in Attingal police station limits on Wednesday. The police discovered the body at 6 p.m. on the basis of the statement given by one Abbas.

According to the police, Abbas had arrived drunk at the Attingal police station and told the Circle-Inspector that he had killed Pradeep on the latter's request. Abbas and Pradeep had been drinking at a local bar since afternoon. Pradeep in a drunken state had requested Abbas to strangle him to death. Abbas told the police that Pradeep's love for a woman was unreciprocated and that was the reason why he "pleaded for death". Abbas also stated that it was the first time he had met Pradeep. However, the police have not taken Abbas's statement at face value. The Dy.SP, Attingal, B. Sasidharan, said Pradeep's family was not aware of their son having any such affair. The family members told the Dy.SP that Pradeep was not in a situation that could have made him desire death. Mr. Sasidharan said that Abbas had burned the rope used for strangling Pradeep. The police also recovered Pradeep's purse and footwear from Abbas's custody.
