Man booked on cheating charge

NEW DELHI: One person has been arrested by the South-West Delhi police for allegedly duping people of several lakhs of rupees in car deals. He was also found driving a vehicle bearing the registration number of a Toyota Qualis belonging to the Narcotics Control Bureau.

The police said Harjit Singh, a resident of Hari Nagar, had lodged a complaint with the Vasant Vihar police on April 25 against one Rajesh Kumar Chaudhary in this regard. A case was registered and following investigations Rajesh was arrested on Wednesday. He was found riding an Opel Astra with a registration number which belonged to an NCB vehicle.

According to the police, Harjit had met Rajesh in 2001. Over a period of time, they developed friendship. Rajesh then came up with a business proposal for Harjit, a car dealer. He asked Harjit to sell the cars to him promising handsome and quick returns. Rajesh would buy the cars from Harjit and then sell it to some other party.

Rajesh bought two vehicles from Harjit but did not give him the entire amount. He would only pay some amount in advance. In a couple of purchases, both worth over Rs. 2 lakhs, Rajesh paid only Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 50,000 in advance. Inquiries by Harjit revealed that the other party had already paid the entire amount to Rajesh. When Harjit approached him to pay the entire amount, Rajesh humiliated him. The police said Rajesh had also been booked under preventive sections.
