Letters to the Editor
Following the arrest of ousted Nepal Prime Minister, Sher Bahadur Deuba, all eyes are now focussed on New Delhi. Will India go ahead with its plans to resume military supplies to the Himalayan Kingdom? If not, can it afford to hold back military supplies for long given the threat of Maoists?
* * *
India should not reconsider its decision. By stopping military aid to Nepal, it has given the impression to the people of Nepal that it is supporting the Maoists. It has tied itself up with a handful of pro-democracy agitators who can neither unite among themselves nor wage a decisive struggle against the King. These leaders have antagonised the monarchy, the security forces and the people who want the Maoist insurgency to end.

New Delhi is now caught between the devil and the deep sea on the question of arms supply. Under the circumstances, the best we can do is pressure King Gyanendra to restore democracy in the interest of his country and resume arms supply in the interest of our country.
