Militants behead policeman

Shujaat Bukhari

SRINAGAR: Militants beheaded a policeman and shot dead an activist of the ruling People's Democratic Party while five others were killed in separate incidents since Wednesday night. Strong protests rocked the Nishat area here condemning the killing of Assistant Sub-Inspector Ali Mohammad Rah. The police resorted to lathicharge to disperse protesters who blocked traffic for nearly two hours. The police said three militants abducted Mr. Rah at gunpoint from his house. He was taken to nearby woods, his hands tied with barbed wire and his throat slit.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Counter Intelligence) Ashkoor Wani told The Hindu that investigations had begun to identify the killers. Another policeman, Mohammad Maqbool Lone, was shot dead by militants at his house in Kachwa Muqam Baramulla.

A police spokesman said Mohammad Yaseen Magray, a PDP worker and an employee of the Irrigation department, was shot dead by ultras at Kulgam
